The 2022 BLEACH* Festival is a must-attend! The festival is one of Australia’s best and most exciting contemporary art events. Expect 11 days of modern art experiences, presented by Placemakers*, as the festival honours the most avant-garde and daring local artists.
The BLEACH* Festival features a variety of events, including small music series, gripping narratives, performance art, and visual exhibitions, and it welcomes famous Australian and international partners. From August 11 to August 21, BLEACH* 2022 will take place in North Burleigh Heads, Miami, the Gold Coast Botanical Gardens, Burleigh Brewing, HOTA, Miami Marketta, and Mudgeeraba, among other locations.

North Burleigh Hub
First Light & Last Light: August 11 & August 21
The festival runs from August 11 to August 21, opening and closing at the North Burleigh Hub. Attendees will gather for the First Light, where ceremonial smoke spirals into the dawn sky. Deline Briscoe’s ethereal voice will carry you away to another era.
Follow the call of Maori Sonic Weaver, sound healer, and vocalist Whaia for a dramatic ceremonial walk at North Burleigh Hub as the winter sun sets in the western sky on the festival’s Last Light.
Aboriginal Song & Language: August 13
With the help of proud Aboriginal yarrabilginngunn (song woman) Candace Kruger, you may learn more about the Gold Coast region and the Yugambeh language.
Light Flower: August 11-21
Kevin O’Brien, an architect and designer, descended from the Kaurereg and Meriam Mir peoples of Far North Queensland, designed the delicate form of the coastal banksia flower as his inspiration for Light Flower. Explore the North Burleigh beachfront at night as it shines, look up into the branches, and take in the brilliant splendour of this site-specific installation honouring local flora.

LGBTIQ+ Elders Dance Club: August 21
Enter the dance floor and enjoy a spectacular free event for LGBTIQ+ elders and their allies (of all ages). No prior dance experience is necessary, and everybody is welcome!

BLEACH* Artists Pop Up At Hota Gallery: August 20
Bring the family to the gallery for a fascinating, entertaining, and cost-free day of contemporary art to view the varied work of a selected group of BLEACH* Festival artists. Paintings, pottery, photographs, and videos created by local artists are on display at Australia’s Playground exhibition.

Roller Coaster: August 17, 19, and 21
Bring your skating tales to these songwriting workshops with an incredible lineup of South East Queensland musicians and special guests. The week-long creative takeover will close with a memorable Sunday session when skaters of all ages and levels can participate in a live musical finale.
BLISS: August 20
Get ready for the year’s party, curated by the amazing Tristan Meecham of All The Queens Men. Wear your eco-tinsel and dance the night away. At BLEACH*, electronic music, queer performance art, DJs, and VJs come together to create an electrifying night.

There will be four private concerts in four classic country sheds for a day of in-depth listening. Drive into the lush hillsides. Big hART’s award-winning Acoustic Life of Sheds, a celebration of sheds’ culture, personality, and acoustics, invites renowned composers, musicians, and artists.
Gold Coast Regional Botanic Gardens
Home Grown Opera: August 11-13
Prepare a rug and a picnic! Bring the entire family to enjoy the wonder of opera on the grounds. This evening promises to be moving and unforgettable for the whole family, featuring new arrangements by composer John Rotar and performances by some of Queensland’s best opera singers and musicians.
